Garth Anthony Rose, is a Jamaican national who has been residing in Florida, United States of America, since 1987. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies where he attained the bachelors degree in economics, and the masters degree in management. He is the recipient of two outstanding Fellowships gained in the USA, the Walter Kaitz Fellowship for cable television, and the W.K.Kellogg's Fellowship in the field of management. Through the latter Fellowship he sat and successfully attained the Ph.D. degree in Business Administration, with specialty in management.
Dr. Rose prior to taking residence Florida, served several companies in Jamaica in executive managerial positions. These positions include executive director of the Student's Loan Bureau; general manager of the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, Executive Director of the Jamaica Cultural Commission, Executive Director of the Jamaica Small Business Association and general manager of the Community Enterprises Organization Company. In Florida he served as general manager of the former Caribbean Satellite Network (CSN-TV); Watson and Company Consulting, Caytech, Inc., director of planning of a community based, non-profit organization, Work America, Inc., managing editor, Caribbean Lifestyles Magazine, and director of research and development of Tavistock International, Inc.
His tenure in the United States also took him through periods, when as a minority immigrant, managerial positions were not easy to find, and he found himself on the other side of management. But these experiences were to prove very meaningful as it presented the opportunity to face the nuances of management, seeing the glaring weaknesses and inconsistencies of management, especially in a corporate setting. It was these experiences which particularly motivated Dr. Rose to embark on the mission to be directly involved in improving the role of management, especially as this affects people.
Dr. Rose's profound philosophy is that the most vital business resource is the human resource, and that businesses cannot be effective or successful if the relationship between management and staff is weak. In his opinion an unhappy and dissatisfied staff will not function at optimum levels, and will weaken the general output of a company. People should be offered the opportunity for optimum job/career satisfaction at the work place. The conviction of this philosophy led Dr. Rose to write the book "Staff, They Are Family Too".
Dr. Rose's work in the field of management has included general administrative management; specialization in business start-ups, preparation of business plans, market plans, grant applications; the coordination and conducting of market research surveys and analysis.
Dr. Rose is an accomplished writer, having experience in Journalism (on behalf of the overseas edition of the Jamaican Gleaner), and as a business and creative writer.
